About Me
I’m a California native who has been avidly reading ever since I learned how, with a particular love for speculative and science fiction, experimental writing, and stories about healing from illness, trauma, and loss. I hold a B.A. in Creative Writing and Literature from Bard College and an M.A. in English Literature from the Université Bordeaux Montaigne, where my thesis focused on the intersection of literature and medicine. I spent seven years teaching English at the high school, college, and graduate levels in France, where I also edited and published the bilingual ‘zine Louis Liard. I currently live in San Francisco, CA, where I was a founding editor of Red Bridge Press and served as the fiction editor of the press’s online journal, Rivet: The Journal of Writing That Risks, from 2014-2021. I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association. My original short fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction is published in print and online journals; see deborahksteinberg.com for more about my own writing. You can also find me on Substack.
