Bio

Deborah_final-18I’m a California native who has been avidly reading ever since I learned how, with a particular love for speculative and science fiction, experimental writing, and stories about healing from illness, trauma, and loss. I hold a B.A. in Creative Writing and Literature from Bard College and an M.A. in English Literature from the Université Bordeaux Montaigne, where my thesis focused on the intersection of literature and medicine. I spent seven years teaching English at the high school, college, and graduate levels in France, and I still love working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures to find their voices and express themselves using language. Currently based in San Francisco, CA, I am a founding editor of Red Bridge Press and the fiction editor of the press’s online journal, Rivet: The Journal of Writing That Risks. I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association and the Association of Writers and Writing Programs. My original short fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction is published in print and online journals. See deborahksteinberg.com for more about my own writing.
